Pilot Bay Guest House is located at 440 Berry Point Road at the north end of Gabriola Island. It is a 5 minute drive, a 20 minute walk and a 10 minute cycle from the Gabriola ferry terminal.  If you need a pick up, you can reach the Gabriola taxi service at 250-247-0049.

Getting to Gabriola Island is easy. If you come on foot/by bus, by bike or by car, you will need to take a ferry from the Vancouver mainland (either from Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal or Tsawwassen ferry terminal) to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Then you’ll take a short ferry ride from the Nanaimo Harbour at 160 Front Street to Gabriola Island.

You can also fly to Nanaimo from the Vancouver International Airport or from downtown Vancouver, or take a float plane directly from Vancouver to the south end of Gabriola Island.

The ferry schedules are located at www.bcferries.com. In the summer months, or at peak hours, if you are driving to Gabriola Island, we recommend that you make a ferry reservation for the journey between the Vancouver Mainland and Nanaimo.

The summer 2008 ferry schedule to Gabriola Island is also listed below. You cannot make a reservation on the Gabriola Island ferry.

On Foot/By Bus

Take a bus from downtown Vancouver (from 1150 Station Street; call Greyhound (604) 484 8747 or 1-800 661 8747 or visit their website.) directly to Nanaimo. The bus will bring you on board the Horseshoe Bay ferry and will leave you at the bus terminal in the city of Nanaimo. Then walk to the Gabriola ferry terminal (20 minutes) or take a taxi. Walk or take a taxi (247-0049) to Pilot Bay Guest House once you arrive on Gabriola Island.

OR

Take a city bus (www.bctransit.com) from downtown Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal or Tsawwassen ferry terminal, or drive to either terminal. Park in the pay lot. Walk on the ferry. If you are coming via Horseshoe Bay, you will arrive in Nanaimo at the Departure Bay ferry terminal. You can either walk to the Gabriola Island ferry terminal (about 45 minutes) or take taxi. If you are coming via Tsawwassen, you will be arriving at the Duke Point ferry terminal. You must take a taxi to the Gabriola ferry terminal.

Once you arrive on Gabriola Island walk or take a taxi to Pilot Bay Guest House (247-0049).

Cycle to either the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal or to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. (If you have not done this before, we can give you more detailed instructions). Or, take a city bus equipped with a bike rack to either terminal.

It is a short bike ride (about 15 minutes) from the Nanaimo (Departure Bay) ferry terminal to the Gabriola ferry terminal. The bike ride from the Duke Point ferry terminal to the Gabriola ferry terminal is somewhat longer and involves some highway travel. Again, speak to us about the best routing.

Once arriving on Gabriola Island, cycle the short distance to Pilot Bay Guest House.

By Car

Take Highway #1 to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal or Highway 99 to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. Upon arrival at either Nanaimo Departure Bay terminal or Duke Point ferry terminal, it is a short drive to the Gabriola ferry terminal in downtown Nanaimo. Once on Gabriola Island, we are a 5 minute drive from the ferry terminal.

By Air

Fly from Vancouver International Airport to Nanaimo Cassidy Airport

Fly via Air Canada from Vancouver International Airport to Cassidy Airport south of Nanaimo. Take the Nanaimo Airporter EXPRESS (1-800-209-7792) to Gabriola Ferry terminal. Walk or take a taxi to Pilot Bay Guest House once you arrive on Gabriola Island (247-0049).

Fly from Downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo by Float Plane

Harbour Air (1-800-665-0212), West Coast Air (1-800-347-2222) and Amigo Airways 1-866-692-6440 offer frequent flights from downtown Vancouver to the Nanaimo Harbour. You can then walk to the Gabriola Ferry terminal. Once you arrive on Gabriola Island, walk or take a taxi to Pilot Bay Guest House (247-0049).

Fly from Vancouver International Airport South Terminal to Silva Bay, Gabriola Island

Float plane service from the Vancouver Airport directly to the south end of Gabriola Island at Silva Bay is available three times a day by Tofino Air. Take a taxi to Pilot Bay Guest House once you arrive on Gabriola Island (247-0049).
